Welcome to

Liberty Movement

We believe content creators should retain full data sovereignty, while not constraining themselves to individual silos. The best of two worlds, between decentralization and community, is achieved by the fediverse.

Imagine if anyone could run their own private Youtube, easily and cheaply. That would be great, except for one thing: we would lose the network effect that centralized platforms provide, where all the content can be found in one single place, and where all users can interact with each other.

But there is a way to combine the best of two worlds, called the fediverse. This is the future of social media. We are building the first federated video network of the Liberty Movement, and we call it the Autonomy Truth Media Network. We are inviting like-minded video content creators to join this federation.

The Fediverse In a Nutshell

Imagine having your own Minecraft server, but still being able to play with millions of other people, like you do on very large instances.

Imagine having your own personal Facebook back-end, and yet being able to befriend and message people who are on another server, on the other side of the world.

That’s the future of social media, but it’s also the past, as it is how IRC and Usenet work.

Thanks to PeerTube and ActivityPub, we’re doing it for video hosting, and for liberty.

Decentralized Hosting

Content creators have their own instance, or use one maintained by people they know and trust.

Right to Secede

Instances can secede from the federation at any time, to join another one or start their own.

Common Protocol

Instances communicate with each other using the same federation protocol, ActivityPub.

Best of Two Worlds

Although the ecosystem is decentralized, you can see all the users, and all the content.

Frequently Asked Questions

Creativity to battle worldwide censorship of the internet is at an apex. We need our own platforms to combat censorship and shadow banning, and to connect to everybody else that’s doing likewise. In the past we didn’t have the technology. Now we do.

The idea behind content federation is to rely on open-source software to enable data sovereignty (creators host their own content) and content networking (creators aren’t stuck in individual silos). We are using PeerTube to create the first federated network of the liberty movement.

Federations are networks of inter-connected content hosting instances; in this case, we are using PeerTube for video content. It is the best countermeasure against identity or age restrictions, censorship, or shadow banning. Plus, you host your own data, and it’s based on open-source software, so it cannot be taken down.

PeerTube federations – and the fediverse in general – are a game changer in the war for human liberty and consciousness. It solves the problems of echo chambers and censorship, both at the same time.

AUTONOMY Truth Freedom Network is our contribution to creating a central hub to provide freedom fighters with the tools for freedom to fight back against big tech and censorship.

It is very simple: video content creators deploy and maintain their own PeerTube instance; then, if they’re liberty-minded, they join our federation. Their video content thus becomes accessible through every other instance of the federation.

Federation allows combining the best of two worlds: sovereignty and networking. Host and own your own data, while also creating a way for content to be shared across a worldwide network.

Groups with similar interests may be inclined to federate together. We at Autonomy, we are all about individual human liberty; but others might create their own federation around other ideas.

Each federation would typically have its own rules or “Charter”; anyone is free to join or establish any federation their prefer, at any time.

Even when you’re part of a federation, you can still selectively choose what will display elsewhere from your PeerTube instance. For example, you could unlist some content if you wish to embed it behdind a paywall on your website.

PeerTube is a technically mature platform, with a full-fledged REST API and the same functionality as Youtube, plus three principal unique upsides.

First and foremost, it supports content federation (via the ActivityPub protocol).
Second it supports peer-to-peer, so that the bandwidth of concurrent viewers is distributed across the network; this enhances the user experience, on par with any large commercial platform, while your server is consuming only a fraction of the bandwidth than you would otherwise be using.
Third you can easily and automatically mirror the content you already have on YouTube, or elsewhere online; in most cases, you don’t need to re-upload.
The life saver is when YouTube strikes you down, shadow-bans or deletes your channel, you have all your content safe and secure on your PeerTube Server and can cast it right back up.

They are better than Youtube, but they are still centralized platforms. They can still be coerced through violence to take content down, and they can still be censored by individual ISPs. Rumble for example is inaccessible in France, as they have no other choice than to block French IPs because of the threat of violence against them by thugs in costumes.

The entire federated video content can be accessed through the site of any individual member of the federation. That’s the beauty of it; there isn’t a single centralized domain or server that can be blocked or de-platformed. We do obviously maintain our own PeerTube instance though, you can find it by clicking on “Video Server” atop this page.

Are there still ads on the Internet? It seems like they’ve been gone for a long time already. No, seriously, content creators who want to generate revenue are free to unlist part of their content and to embed it somewhere behind a paywall; they can also find sponsors and mention these inside their videos. However ads that spam through video servers are preposterous, thankfully filtered out by adblockers, and unsupported by this federation.

Yes, by all means! First, claiming any sort of monopoly on ideas is utterly immoral. Second, the idea isn’t ours to begin with; we just think we are likely to execute it successfully for video content on the liberty scene. Third, it is through competition and trial-and-error that best practices emerge. Federated social networks are the future (and the past) of social networks, they are congruent with the very nature of the Internet, and we can’t wait for this elementary fact to become obvious to everyone.

This project was founded and is supported by Autonomy, the educational organization of Richard Grove. The recruitment of other federation members is ongoing, and we will soon be publishing a list of instances on this website. If you are a content creator and you’re interested in joining, see the section below.

Easier than you may think. We will soon be posting comprehensive tutorials, and we are currently gathering resources to help people do it. But in the mean time, here is what you should know: you need to book a Virtual Private Server with at least 4 CPU cores and 8 GB of memory, preferably running Ubuntu server. Then, you need to follow PeerTube’s production guide to install and configure the software. After that, you need to upload or mirror your content to the PeerTube, and to federate your instance with ours.

That’s one of the (many) advantages of PeerTube. It’s extremely easy to mirror content! If you have a Youtube channel, it can be readily mirrored with no effort whatsoever. Otherwise, if your video content is well organized, e.g. listed in a CSV with video titles, descriptions, thumbail URLs and video URLs, simple scripts make the mirroring easy. We will soon be publishing more information and guides on how to do this, and we are also gathering resources to help people with it.

First and foremost, your content will get increased exposure. We are not asking that you leave Youtube or Rumble, so having your content hosted on PeerTube as well can only increase your audience. Furthermore, you’ll have a higher chance of reaching liberty-minded, sovereign individuals, as that’s the spirit behind our project.

The governance documents are currently being written. Indeed we need to specify a common ground on which all members of the federation agree to work; we need to specify the type of instance and the type of content we wish to have. We are already taking applications for members, we we are not technically open yet.

Interested to join?

If you are a content creator, if you produce video content that serves the cause of individual liberty and human emancipation, we are interested to know about you! Please click on the button below and fill-in the application form. We will be in touch very shortly.
